Follow these stay-safe Dos and Don’ts from Jo Walker, from the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

Don’t give out your full name, phone numbers or any other contact information or form of identification until you have met the person and are comfortable about them.

Do talk before meeting him. Call from a private line so your number doesn’t show. His voice will tell you a lot.

Don’t assume that what he told you online is the truth. In one study, 81% of online daters admitted to lying in their profiles.

Do let someone know where you are going and who you are meeting and arrange to call them when you have returned safely.

Don’t decide to sleep with a guy before you’ve met, no matter how close you’ve become online. If you’re not 100% keen, say, “I’ve enjoyed meeting online but I want to take this part slow.”
