Itch of 7 Years
About long-term relationship, there is a saying in Chinese called ‘Itch of 7 Years’, which means that after being in a relationship for several years, people will just get bored or tired of it. And I just recalled a classical line in the movie of Perfect Stranger. “Show me a beautiful woman and I’ll show u a man who’s tired of fucking her.”
It seems that long-term relationship is always in danger and the promise of “forever and ever more” is usually nothing but fine-sounding words. “Happily ever after” sounds too ideal for real world and will just exist in stories and fairy tales.
A friend of mine always concludes that, if you want to stay in the life of loving someone and being loved in return, just keep change your partner. Sometimes, I’m afraid that it does make sense.
Are we too negative? Maybe… Majority of the population in the modern society tend to be lack in the sense of security. The faith in love might become something in high demand. Novels and movies keep telling us about this phenomenon.
It might not be a universal truth that people jump from one relationship into another as they enjoy new things more than old familiar ones. You will tell.
